Friday Update: Smuggler Character Progression Vide...

This week’s Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is finally worthy of the label “Friday Update”.  First we have a progression video for the Smuggler, showing off a variety of skills and outfits for both the Scoundrel and Gunslinger Advanced Classes.  Then there is a developer blog from on The Old Republic’s expanded universe told in the pages of several books and comics. Lastly, a PAX highlights video is available with fan commentary and footage from the booth.

The new Developer Blog by Senior Writer Alexander Freed focuses on the expanded universe of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Freed has some key insights on what goes into developing these expanded stories from his first-hand experience of writing two tie-in comics (Blood of the Empire and The Lost Suns). He also shares what fans can expect from future adventures set in this era.

<Ends singing>

We are just over halfway through 2011 and we officially have 18 Friday’s left in the year for BioWare to release information on Star Wars: The Old Republic.  This is my “speculation” into what we may see in some of these Friday Updates and I don’t believe we will be using all 18…

Updated 09/23/2011:

  • Moved  ”Website Update: Advanced Class Skill Tree “Calculators”" from Oct 21st to Nov 4th.
  • Replaced Developers Blog on Sep. 30th with Fan Friday | US & EU Beta Weekends Restart.
  • Moved Early Access Details from Oct 14th to Oct 28th.
  • Moved “Guild Phase 3 Begins” from Oct. 28th to Nov. 4th.
  • Moved “Announcement of Beta Weekends Ending Oct. 23rd” from Oct. 14th to Oct. 28th and changed the end date from the 23rd to 30th.

*Guild Phase 2 could likely happen the week before with the Fan Friday | Studio Insider OR on Wednesday (September 21) before the EUROGAMER EXPO. (Am I good or what!)
**The  ”rumored” Legacy system could likely be included in a content patch after the release of the software as hinted at the Sunday PAX Panel by Daniel Erickson when saying they were already working on the first content patch.
***A 7-day staggered release would allow for approximately 250K people per day for a total of 1.75m pre-orders.  If there are more than 2m pre-orders Early Access could be extended additional days +/- delaying the retail release to November 22.

Fan Friday & Studio Insider: Flesh Raiders

This weeks Friday Update introduced a new update called Studio Insider which demonstrates the process that goes into concept art from Diego Almazan of a Flesh Raider and a Community Q&A section.  BioWare’s Daniel Erickson answers questions about group questing mechanics, helmet toggle options, Advanced Class roles, and returning to origin planets. If you would like to ask the developers a question and possibly be featured in a future update, BioWare is soliciting participation from the community to post their questions in a thread dedicated to the function.

The update also included this month’s Fan Friday, and includes various artwork, paintings, fan fiction, emoticons, wallpapers, costumes and avatars. Community members also showcased their Halloween costumes, and new polls are available.

Friday Update: Warzone Video, Crafting and More!

Remember, remember the fifth of November…  The day BioWare finally releases some information that the fan’s have been yearning for.

PvP Warzones – Alderaan

Joanne Laroche said:

Officially a neutral world, Alderaan has become the focus of Republic and Imperial political maneuvering. Even as conflict between Alderaans noble houses threatens to turn into civil war, Republic and Imperial forces engage in a secret battle that could decide the planets fate. High in the mountains, both sides fight for control of Alderaans massive planetary defense cannona weapon powerful enough to devastate an enemys fleet and ensure domination over the planets skies.

The battle on Alderaan is our first detailed look at organized team Player vs Player (PvP) in The Old Republic. To secure the planetary defense cannon, players must deplete the enemy transport ships shields, driving their forces to retreat or be annihilated. Players must work together to control the defense systems artillery units if they are to protect their fleet and emerge victorious.

Well be offering more insight into how Warzones work in the near future, but for now, we hope this video will give you a good sense of the Warzone experience in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™! Also, be sure to check the screenshot section to see how this battle is heating up.
