Friday Update: The Nerd-Rage Continues…

This week’s Friday Updates served us with an expected Fan Friday & Studio Insider update – minus the Fan Friday.  Instead of the anticipated (or not?) Fan Friday we received a separate update on the final details for next week’s San Diego Comic-Con event.   Senior Video Editor Brian Arndt provided us insight at the process of making the opening cinematics for each of the character classes in this week’s Studio Insider. The Community Q&A included with the Studio Insider is on sound design with Senior Audio Artist Scott Morton.

Fan Friday & Studio Insider: Environment Poli...

Why do they call it “Fan Friday“?  Is it because it focuses on the “fans” creations or is it for the fan community?  It must be the first part because Fan Friday’s for me offer nothing in terms of gaining knowledge about Star Wars: The Old Republic.  New Avatar’s that I will never use and fan art that is sometimes at best mediocre - though there are a few diamonds in the rough.  The Studio Insider offers a glimpse into the daily lives of developers at BioWare including Senior Environment Artist, Robby Lamb who discusses Environment Polish.  The Community Q&A is the biggest joke in the world.  Honestly.  Each month they choose questions about the game that are so mundane that I am honestly shocked that a community member waste his/her time in posting the question to begin with.  Much of the questions are common sense if you’ve follow the game even for the past month much less than someone who has been following it for the past (nearly) 3-years.

Call me bitter or unappreciative, but I guess I expect more from a game that is to be released 8-months (likely 5-months as my speculated release date is September 16, 2011).

Fan Friday & Studio Insider Update

It is another less than stellar Friday Update for Star Wars: The Old Republic featuring Fan Friday and Studio Insider.  This weeks fan Friday features forum member’s Greighson’s Sith-themed propaganda posters,  Crypticgrr created portraits of several characters, including a Twi’lek dancing girl and Kharmis wrote a fan fiction about the Republic Troopers. Also, the forums added new smilies and avatars.  Two new polls where also added to the forums this week featuring:

Whats your favorite part of being in a guild?
What Fan Site is your favorite to regularly visit?

The Studio Insider features Senior Concept Artist Ryan Dening and Senior Environment Artist Christopher Reeves on Starship Creation and a very useless Community Q&A with Senior Producer Blaine Christine.

BioWare also officially announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be present at PAX East in March.

Fan Friday, Studio Insider and Community Q&A

This week’s Friday Update brings a Fan Friday and a Studio Insider. The Fan Friday features a selection of avatars, wallpaper and emoticons, while the Studio Insider goes into depth about the design of Coruscant.

The second Community Q & A thread also opened, so feel free to head over and ask the developers about whatever parts of The Old Republic you want to hear about. More than a few burning questions were answered in the Q & A, most notably one on PVE and PVP servers.

Fan Friday & Studio Insider: Flesh Raiders

This weeks Friday Update introduced a new update called Studio Insider which demonstrates the process that goes into concept art from Diego Almazan of a Flesh Raider and a Community Q&A section.  BioWare’s Daniel Erickson answers questions about group questing mechanics, helmet toggle options, Advanced Class roles, and returning to origin planets. If you would like to ask the developers a question and possibly be featured in a future update, BioWare is soliciting participation from the community to post their questions in a thread dedicated to the function.

The update also included this month’s Fan Friday, and includes various artwork, paintings, fan fiction, emoticons, wallpapers, costumes and avatars. Community members also showcased their Halloween costumes, and new polls are available.
